Saving our water – SaveH2O

Grant • 2023–2025

Combating water shortage as a result of climate change is at the very heart of our project.

Climate change models project more frequent and intense summer droughts in the years to come, due to a joint effect of a rise in temperature and a drop in precipitation, particularly in the southern part of Europe.

In many cases, climatic global warming will increase the frequency of drought occurrences, as well as those of floods, thus, aggravating the situation.

Climate change is projected to reduce water resources in many islands, and a decline in rainfall combined with deforestation may lead to a reduction in surface run-off.

Furthermore, islands like Cyprus also have small catchments that do not provide any perennial flow.

Therefore, our project wants to impact water scarcity directly by raising awareness on the topic to primary education pupils by using STEAM (STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking), where applicable.
