HoReCa5.0 Project

Grant • 2022–2024

The "HoReCa5.0" project, initiated in 2022, focuses on enhancing the capability of SMEs within the hotel, restaurant, and catering (HoReCa) sector to effectively adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and knowledge. As one of the fastest-growing sectors in Europe, HoReCa employs over 8 million individuals and generates significant revenue, but faces challenges related to uncertain customer behavior, resource availability, and sensitivity to various external events. These challenges necessitate that HoReCa businesses become adept in technology to improve decision-making and process automation.

The project emphasizes practical training tailored to the real-world needs of the HoReCa sector, rather than academic instruction, using accessible language and maintaining explainability to build trust in AI-based decision support systems. The training aims to equip SME owners, professionals, and self-employed individuals with AI skills pertinent to their operations.

Key stakeholders include HoReCa SME owners, relevant professional networks, local authorities, vocational education and training (VET) institutions, educators in AI and business topics, providers of educational materials, policy bodies concerned with SME sustainability and digital transformation, and universities with students in business, economics, ICT, and engineering fields. The initiative ultimately serves to benefit the wider society by promoting sustainable and technologically advanced business practices within the HoReCa sector.
