Building Inclusive Higher Education: Introducing the PATH2Succeed Project
March 17, 2026
A new Erasmus+ partnership empowering students with learning disabilities across Europe
Across Europe, only 31% of students with disabilities complete higher education, compared to 43% of their peers (European Commission, 2022). This gap is not inevitable, it is addressable. The PATH2Succeed project is a newly launched Erasmus+ cooperation partnership dedicated to closing this gap through personalized tools, digital resources and institutional capacity, building for universities across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
Uniting five partner organisations from Latvia, Cyprus, Portugal and Bulgaria, PATH2Succeed is designed not only for the students who need it most, but for every higher education institution that wants to build a more equitable and supportive learning environment.
Why this matters - and why now?
Students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, ADHD, dyscalculia and other conditions face systemic barriers in higher education: from inaccessible learning materials and assessment formats to a lack of adequate institutional support structures. Many students never disclose their difficulties, leaving them without the help they need to succeed.
At the same time, universities across Europe are increasingly called upon to broaden access, strengthen the social dimension of higher education and modernise their teaching and learning practices. PATH2Succeed responds directly to these priorities.
What is PATH2Succeed?
PATH2Succeed (Personalized study skills, Approaches, and Technologies for helping Higher education students Succeed) is an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education (KA220,HED), co-funded by the European Union. Running from September 2025 to August 2027, the project will develop and freely release a suite of technology, enhanced tools and resources for both students and institutions.
The project focuses on three core pillars:
• Inclusion and Diversity: creating personalised learning environments that identify and build on students' individual strengths.
• Institutional Capacity: supporting universities in establishing and enhancing Study Skills Support Units.
• Innovative Teaching and Learning: designing technology, enhanced experiences that promote flexibility, engagement and accessibility.
Who is it for?
PATH2Succeed targets a wide range of stakeholders in higher education:
• University students, particularly those with disclosed or undiagnosed learning disabilities, or those who want to improve their study skills.
• Support staff from University Student Support Units.
• University administrators and academic staff.
• Researchers and professionals working in inclusive and special education.
• Early school leavers looking to build academic and study competencies.
What does the project deliver?
By August 2027, PATH2Succeed will produce five key results, all of which will be freely available to universities and the wider public:
• A Learning Profile Screening Tool to help identify student strengths and areas of support need.
• Interactive Study Skills Webinars tailored to diverse learning profiles.
• Case Study Simulations enabling students to evaluate and improve their study strategies in realistic scenarios.
• An Accessible Learning Management System (LMS) connecting all project tools in a single, user, friendly platform.
• A Comprehensive Handbook guiding higher education institutions in setting up and running Study Skills Support Units.
The PATH2Succeed consortium
The project brings together five complementary organisations:
• University of Latvia (UL): Project Coordinator. Latvia's largest higher education institution, with deep expertise in digital learning and inclusive education.
• EUROCY Innovations Ltd (Cyprus): Educational technology specialists with extensive experience in eLearning platforms, assistive tools and AI-driven learning systems.
• Cyprus University of Technology (CUT): A leading research, intensive university committed to equality, inclusion, and European academic alliances.
• University of Évora (Portugal): One of Portugal's oldest universities, with specialist research units in educational and developmental psychology.
• National Association for Inclusion - NAFI (Bulgaria): An NGO dedicated to promoting diversity, equality and inclusion in education and employment.
The journey begins: Riga kick-off meeting
The PATH2Succeed consortium held its official kick-off meeting in Riga, Latvia on 8–9 October 2025, hosted by the University of Latvia's Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art. Partners from Cyprus, Portugal and Bulgaria came together to launch collaboration activities, agree on the project management structure, and plan the first stages of development.
Work packages discussed and initiated during the meeting include the development of the Learning Management System, the Study Skills Simulator, the Handbook for Support Units and the overarching dissemination and sustainability plan. The two days concluded with a collaborative session on accessibility in digital materials, certificates of participation, and a group photo to mark this successful start.
